While the United States is not a "Christian nation," we are a nation that protects the freedom of Christians. Christians are perfectly free to share their faith with their neighbors, to criticize their government, to debate vigorously in the public square, to allow their religious ethics to inform their public policy stances and to run for office. Indeed, it is precisely because government is prohibited from taking sides in matters of religion that Americans are free to exercise their religion with near impunity and to discharge faithfully the duties imposed by Christ in the Great Commission.
